Grapes ripening: monitoring before harvest

Bosco del Merlo e Premiata Fattoria Castelvecchi

Lison, Radda in Chianti, 14-18 August 2017

Grape samplings continue at Bosco del Merlo and Premiata Fattoria Castelvecchi..
As for the Franciacorta testing vineyards (Guido Berlucchi & C. and Castello Bonomi) grape samplings started in order to realize ripening curves at the experimental site of Bosco del merlo (Glera grapes suitable to become a sparkling wine base for Prosecco production) and at Premiata Fattoria Castelvecchi (Sangiovese grapes suitable to produce Chianti Classico). Such samplings are carried out separately for each parcel and allow on the one hand to monitor the trend of ripening of the grapes and on the other hand to identify the best time for harvesting. The sampling methodology in this case is very accurate: a representative number of berries are randomly collected along the entire parcel to provide a representative sample of the analyzed treatment; these samples are then analyzed to check sugar content, titratable acidity and pH.
